Information technology is clearly becoming ubiquitous in almost all areas of our daily lives. However, for it to function smoothly it requires professionals who master specific skills in this special field of knowledge. This is where the Faculty of Exact Sciences of the "Aurel Vlaicu" University of Arad makes a difference, providing an appropriate environment for the development of both theoretical and practical/applied skills for students interested in mathematics and computer science.
Teaching / Research Staff
The Faculty of Exact Sciences was established at the "Aurel Vlaicu" University of Arad, as a result of the existence of a core of specialized professors, organized within the structure of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.
Professors with extensive teaching experience in Romania, the USA, France, England, the United Arab Emirates and Hungary, as well as young and motivated professors are here to make you understand computer science. Our teaching and learning programs are designed based on the international experiences / skills of our colleagues in educational management programs, as well as in-depth consultation and collaboration with the main economic actors in our region.
Another crucial direction of our team is the research side. At the Faculty of Exact Sciences there is a core of researchers involved in several national and international research projects. With a solid background in computer science, PhDs in England, Belgium, France, USA and research experience in well-known laboratories and universities, for example, LITIS, INRIA, Hubert Curien - France, King's College - England, Los Alamos National Lab, Rose Research, Washington State University - USA, College of Information Technology - United Arab Emirates, we have developed research teams that interact daily with students. The student scientific seminar is one of the most illustrative examples, where students together with professors discover the latest research advances in areas such as information theory, cryptography, artificial intelligence, Quantum computing. Some students participate in this process by developing software and small research projects that are presented nationally and internationally, at student or research conferences.
Internationalization
Our students are involved in several international projects and collaborations, the most relevant being ERASMUS. Every year, students from our faculty exchange a semester/year in universities in Europe, e.g. Portugal, Spain, France, etc. Also, our academic staff has several collaborations with universities, especially in Europe, where researchers/professors are invited. Our English language program has attracted students from different regions of Romania, as well as students from abroad, e.g. England, Spain, etc.

The Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the "Aurel Vlaicu" University of Arad covers the largest area of information and communication technologies. Anyone who wants to learn computer science is welcome, regardless of their background or experience in the field. We support all students eager to retrain and find better jobs in the field. The focus is not only on programming, but also on how you learn to find a mathematical model of real-world processes and how to design the real world through code, the Internet of Things, networks, cybersecurity mechanisms, artificial intelligence, machine learning and data mining. You will learn all about the statistics behind social media platforms, databases, computational geometry, operating systems and much more. About programming languages, you will learn front-end and back-end programming (SQL Server; C # .Net, JAVA, TypeScript, JQuery, CSS, HTML, React, JavaScript, Angular, Android Studio and mobile programming and other specialized tools). Computer science is used in all areas of modern society, and therefore, studies in computer science open up hundreds of remarkable job prospects for you.
- Computer mathematics
The Bachelor's degree program in Computer Science is a dual major that covers a wide range of mathematical disciplines such as Logic, Mathematical Analysis, Differential Equations, Mathematical Statistics, etc., as well as computer science disciplines from those mentioned above. There are many reasons why you might choose to pursue this degree program, but the most obvious is probably that you enjoy solving problems, and this skill can be developed and used in building a successful career! And because mathematics generally develops logical and analytical thinking and helps to manage information effectively, experts in mathematics and computer science are increasingly sought after in other sectors of activity that rely on the development of technology, but also in the economic sector, in the banking sector or in statistics.

Master's programs in Computer Science extend students' experience in the essential areas of computer science and introduce the latest studies in the field. Students have the opportunity to start research activities in computing disciplines.

The Master's degree program in Mathematics aims to increase the ability to apply mathematical tools in the fields of natural sciences, engineering and economics, as well as to involve students in research activities.
Career options
Master's degree graduates can assume leadership roles in ICT (information and communication technologies) organizations or to lead ICT projects in public organizations and private companies. The ICT job market continues to grow in the western part of Romania, therefore expectations are promising.
The Master's degree also allows graduates to apply for doctoral programs in computer science/mathematics and related fields. The knowledge acquired during these programs is a solid asset for a successful teaching career.
The Faculty of Exact Sciences, one of the nine faculties of Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad, was set up starting from the existence of a body of specialised academic staff organised within the framework of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department.
This department was meant to provide expertise to all the university faculties, covering all the Mathematics and Computer Science courses in the curriculum.
The College of Information Tehnology was founded in 2001. After having counted four generations of graduates, the faculty had to reconsider its programmes as the short-term higher education was ceased. The long-term higher education providing four years of Computer Science study was introduced for the university year 2002-2003.
In 2003, the Faculty of Exact Sciences was set up, according to a Government Decision HG 693/2003. At the beginning of the university year 2006-2007, the Faculty of Exact Sciences provided a new study programme: Mathematics –Computer Science.
In 2009, The Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS) accredited the study programme( Level 1) Computer Science at the Faculty of Exact Sciences.. In the same year, the Faculty of Exact Science offered a Level 2 study programme, Master in Computer Science, following the Decision of Aurel Vlaicu University Senate. In February 2011 this programme titled Applied Informatics in Science, Technology and Economy was accredited by ARACIS Council. In 2011, the study programme Bachelor Degree in Computer Science -Distance Learning was accredited by ARACIS. In 2012, the study programme Bachelor Degree in Mathematics – Computer Science was accredited by ARACIS. In 2013, the study programme Bachelor Degree in Applied Computer Science ( whose language of study is English) was authorised by the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS). In 2014, the study programme Master in Mathematical modeling in research and didactics (MMCD), an international programme (whose language of study is English), was accredited by the same ARACIS.

The Faculty of Exact Sciences was established at the "Aurel Vlaicu" University of Arad, as a result of the existence of a core of specialized teaching staff, organized in the structure of the Department of Mathematics - Informatics. This department was intended to serve all the faculties of the university, covering all the mathematics and computer science classes in the curriculum. In 2001, the College of Information Technology was established. The College had four generations of graduates, the last two going into liquidation due to the abolition of the short-term higher education form. The Computer Science study program, long form - 4 years, was established in the academic year 2002-2003, and in 2003 the Faculty of Exact Sciences was authorized according to Government Decree 693/2003. In the academic year 2006-2007, a new study program was established within the Faculty of Exact Sciences, namely Computer Mathematics, provisionally authorized by the CNEAA with no. 2212/03.11.2005. Until 2003, the Computer Science study program operated in Building D of the university. Starting from the academic year 2003-2004, by purchasing and arranging the new building, called Building M, located in the Micalaca neighborhood, Elena Drăgoi street, the Faculty of Exact Sciences operates in optimal conditions in this space.
Bachelor's Degree - Computer Science The Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science - full-time was accredited by ARACIS in 2009, accreditation confirmed by H.G. no. 749/24.06.2009 published in the M.O. Part I No. 465/06.07.2009 and reaccredited in 2015 within the institutional evaluation (HG 575 of July 15, 2015). The bachelor's program was subject to periodic evaluation in 2021 when it was decided to maintain the accreditation, by validating the ARACIS Council Report in the meeting of 28.01.2021.
Master's degree - Informatics The master's degree study program in the field of computer science, with the name "Applied Informatics in Science, Technology and Economy" was established in 2009, by H.S. UAV no.125/15.06.2009 and confirmed by O.M. no. 5363/29.09.2009 published in M.O.partea I no.657/02.10.2009. In the ARACIS Council meeting of 17.02.2011, this program was proposed for analysis and validation and received a tuition fee. In 2017, a new master's program, "Advanced Studies in Applied Informatics (in English)", was included in the already accredited field of Informatics, without changing the tuition fee. Since then, the master's field of Informatics with the two related master's programs, "Advanced Studies in Applied Informatics (in English)" and "Applied Informatics in Science, Technology and Economics" has been subject to periodic evaluation and accreditation was maintained in 2019 and 2025, respectively, according to the ARACIS Council Reports of 19.12.2019 and 5.06.2025, respectively.
Bachelor's Degree - Computer Mathematics The Bachelor's Degree in Computer Mathematics was accredited by ARACIS in 2012, confirmed by H.G. no. 707/2012 published in M.O. no. 525 of 30.07.2012 and reaccredited in 2019 as part of the institutional evaluation, accreditation confirmed by H.G. no. 299/2020 published in M.O. no. 375/2020. In 2024, the program was subject to periodic evaluation and the accreditation was maintained, by approving the ARACIS Council Report in the meeting of 7.11.2024.
Bachelor's Degree - Computer Science (in English) In 2013, a bachelor's degree program taught in English, "Applied Computer Science (in English)", was provisionally authorized by the ARACIS Council Report of 25.07.2013. The program was accredited in 2019 with the name change to "Computer Science (in English)", according to the Report validated by the ARACIS Council of 19.12.2019. In 2024, the program was included in the periodic evaluation process within the institutional evaluation, and by the ARACIS Council Decision of 6.03.2025 in which UAV received High level of confidence, the Computer Science program (in English) was maintained its accreditation.
Master's Degree - Mathematics The master's degree program in mathematics, with the name "Mathematical Models in Research and Teaching" was established in 2014, by H.S. UAV no.125/15.06.2009 as an international master's program, taught in English. At the ARACIS Council meeting on 29.05.2014, the ARACIS May 2014 report was validated. Following the 2021 periodic evaluation by ARACIS of the master's degree field Mathematics, the study program received ARACIS approval again at the meeting on 26.11.2020, with the name changed to "Mathematical Modeling in Science and Technology", the language of instruction still being English.
