Research Center

Research Centre: Mathematical Models and Computer Systems:

The Mission of the MMSI Centre is:

  • Interdisciplinary scientific research, both fundamental and applied
  • Attracting and engaging in research—alongside the faculty staff of the Faculty of Exact Sciences—as many Master's, PhD, and post-doctoral students as possible
  • Developing collaborations with faculty staff and researchers from other faculties, universities, and/or research centres both nationwide and abroad

In particular, the MMSI Centre aims to coagulate the existing expertise within the Faculty of Exact Sciences across two fields: (applied) mathematics and computer science, respectively. The emphasis is on understanding, developing, and applying mathematical models to optimize computer systems (as well as related technologies), while additionally creating and maintaining a dynamic and stimulating environment for research.

Research Objectives: The MMSI Centre pursues multiple objectives, which evidently include developing mathematical models to understand the behaviour of computer systems, designing and analysing algorithms to optimize system performance and solve problems associated with complex systems, as well as applying mathematical models in various fields such as cybersecurity, data analysis, artificial intelligence, etc.

Interdisciplinarity: This is a defining element of the MMSI Centre, making it of interest to researchers from multiple fields (including mathematics, computer science, and engineering, alongside other related domains), thereby promoting collaboration and the exchange of ideas between different disciplines.

Research Projects: Members of the MMSI Centre have worked and continue to work together on various research projects, collaborating with other academic and research institutions, as well as private companies, which has enabled the addressing of diverse research themes and challenges relevant to the MMSI Centre.

Publications and Dissemination: Members of the MMSI Centre have published and continue to publish their research results in scientific journals (indexed in ISI and BDI databases) and actively participate in national and international conferences.

In conclusion, the MMSI Centre aims to concentrate its efforts toward:

  • Obtaining highly valuable research results
  • Attracting funds for conducting these activities
  • Strengthening collaborations with both the scientific and socio-economic environments
  • Developing partnerships with researchers and research institutions nationwide and abroad
  • Increasing the visibility of the Faculty of Exact Sciences at both national and international levels

The methods for capitalizing on research and development results will consist of:

  • Elaborating scientific papers and publishing them in specialized ISI/BDI-indexed journals
  • Presentations at national and international conferences/symposia
  • Participating in national and international research and development programmes
  • Securing research grants funded through national and international competitions
  • Writing books/monographs, book chapters, Bachelor's and Master's theses, and PhD dissertations
  • Integrating research results into educational and training programmes, including specialization courses, research internships, and Master's/PhD programmes.
  • Continuing activities for its own journal, Theory and Applications of Mathematics & Computer Science (https://www.uav.ro/applications/se/journal/index.php/TAMCS), which is BDI-indexed
  • Organizing scientific seminars
  • Knowledge and technology transfer to the economic environment (collaborations)
